Stone polishing

Stone honing

Stone grinding
Grinding is more intensive than honing, intended for removing deeper scratches and unevenness or ‘lipping’. Once these imperfections have been removed, you will have smooth, even flooring again.

Concrete polishing
Concrete polishing as a service is a longer manual process involving grinding, honing, and ultimately polishing. It uses progressively finer abrasives and mechanical means to create a durable, shiny and beautifully smooth surface.
The shine is often likened to marble, a characteristically smooth natural stone, and will be hard-wearing over time as the polishing process fills the tiny pores in the concrete.
We also apply a premium penetrating sealer to help protect your polished floor.
Concrete honing
As part of either service, your concrete may need honing to remove prior damage (scratches, stains, ingrained dirt) before it can be effectively polished or sealed. Honing concrete removes the topmost layer to reveal a smoother, even surface. It creates a blank canvas for your floor.
Concrete grinding
Concrete grinding is the lowest level of refinement out of grinding, honing and polishing. It results in a smooth and even slab, but only brings the surface to a low sheen as it is typically sealed over for a high-gloss finish (similar in appearance to polished concrete, but much less labour-intensive).
Concrete sealing
Sealing after grinding gives a finish that is similar in shine and gloss to polished concrete. This technique uses a film-forming sealer, which dries down to a beautiful glossy finish that enhances the natural colour or inclusions in your concrete. Aggregate concrete can look particularly stunning with a high-gloss sealer applied. This kind of sealer has a life expectancy of 5-7 years depending on how well it is maintained, and how heavily it is used.
Sealing polished concrete involves using a penetrating sealer, as we are not aiming to change the surface appearance and texture of the polished slab. This will sink into the concrete to help protect against spills and damage, enhancing the colour while preserving the beautiful, polished finish. This type of finish can last for up to 10 years before it needs to be re-sealed for best effectiveness.
