FAQs
How much does natural stone restoration cost?
The best way to get an accurate quote for your natural stone restoration service is to contact us directly. One of our expert technicians can assess the area and provide an obligation-free quote for the work required.
Do you only do floors?
Yes. Restore & Protect offers comprehensive services for interior stone floor restoration to get your home looking incredible again. However, we do not restore natural stone bench tops or tables.
How long until we can walk on or touch the surfaces?
After cleaning, you can expect to be able to walk on or touch them as soon as they are dry.
If you have opted for a restoration service and resealing, the curing time is determined by which sealer has been chosen for your specific job. In most cases the sealed surface can be walked on once visibly dry; however, the full cure enabling the sealer to repel potential stains can take up to 48-72 hours in some cases.
Remember to use rubber feet on chairs, or other protectants as needed to reduce the chance of scratching or future damage to your rejuvenated floors.
How do you clean natural stone to remove stains and grime?
Internal cleaning of stone can be completed dry, with a vacuum attached, or wet. Restore & Protect complete most stone restoration work wet for best results; this does not pose any risk to your home as it only uses a very small amount of water, which is immediately vacuumed up.
The stone can then be polished using specialised machinery and diamond grit pads, which have varying degrees of grits from 60 up to 10,000 depending on the level of shine requested or required.
How do you maintain polished stone surfaces?
Protection, regular cleaning, and quick action against any spills are the best ways to keep your polished stone floors looking pristine for longer.
Make sure any chairs or furniture that will be in direct contact with the floor has a rubber or felt cap. Use rugs in high-traffic areas to minimise the impact of whatever is being moved over your lovely stone floor.
More information: Caring for Sealed Surfaces
For any natural stone surface, regular sweeping and mopping will keep your floor in good shape between deep cleaning, sealing and any further restoration.
You should mop up any spills right away. Drips or spills from organic acids like tomato, soft drinks, or citrus can quickly etch natural stone like marble or travertine tiles, which leaves a permanent mark or dulls the area that has come in contact with the substance.
Good sealing with a penetrating sealer can help slow or minimise damage in future.
